What is HewnTree?
An AI tool for requirements and specs. It asks you targeted questions in batches and turns your answers into a structured requirements doc, with every gap and open question marked. It works for software, and for books, games, events and research projects too.
What does HewnTree do?
HewnTree asks you batches of AI questions about your idea and builds a live tree from your answers, with a score for how complete each part is. When you don't know an answer, you say so: it stays marked as a gap and an open question, never filled with a guess. You can have the tree reviewed from another point of view, such as a developer, a tester or a target reader, and export it as a Markdown file. Filling gaps as you find out, PDF and Jira exports come with an Idea Pass (coming soon).
Who is HewnTree for?
HewnTree is for anyone with an idea that is hard to pin down: product owners and analysts working on a feature, founders, creators, writers, designers, students and planners. It handles changes to an existing product, new software and apps, creative writing, events and research projects.
How is HewnTree different from other AI chatbots or tools?
A chat tool is open-ended: you ask, it answers. That leaves you to work out what to ask, which is hard when the whole problem is that you can't yet describe the idea. HewnTree turns it round: you describe the idea in a sentence or two and it asks you the questions. And it keeps what you build. The tree is saved in your account, every change is kept as a version you can roll back, and the AI only changes it when you commit answers or ask it to, so there is no long conversation for it to lose track of. What you don't know yet stays marked as a gap instead of being guessed. The AI underneath is much the same as a chat tool's. What differs is what you put in and what you keep.

Idea Tree
Your idea as a tree of categories, subcategories and specifics, saved with every version. Gaps and open questions are marked, never guessed.
AI Question Batches
Questions aimed at the weak points in your idea. You pick the batch size: Small (up to 10), Medium (up to 20) or Large (up to 30).
Readiness Score
A score per category that rolls up into one readiness percentage, so you can see which parts are thin.
Review as
Have the tree read as a developer, a tester, a teacher or a target reader would, and answer what they ask. Nothing goes into the tree unless you add it. A free account gets 2 every 30 days.
Exports
A Markdown file for Confluence or an AI coding tool, 1 every 30 days on a free account. A PDF brief and a Jira import with epics and stories come with an Idea Pass (coming soon).
Nudge Emails
