Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences and keep you signed in. Some cookies are essential for the site to work; others are optional and help us improve the product.

2. Essential Cookies

These cookies are required for HewnTree to function. They cannot be disabled.

3. Analytics Cookies

These cookies help us understand how HewnTree is used and catch errors. They are optional — you can disable them through the cookie banner or preferences.

Sentry error trackingCaptures technical errors (stack traces, browser info) so we can fix bugs. Does not collect personal information or idea content.SessionSentryArticle 6(1)(f) — legitimate interest (opt-out via banner)

When analytics cookies are disabled, error reports are still collected (this is a legitimate interest for maintaining service quality), but performance tracing is turned off.

4. Consent Withdrawal

For cookies set on the basis of consent (analytics, optional local-storage entries), you can withdraw at any time:

  • Click Cookie Preferences in the footer of any marketing page to reopen the banner.
  • Click Reject optional in the banner.
  • Clear your browser's cookies + local storage for this domain (also signs you out).

Withdrawal applies to future processing. Consent-based data already collected stays in our systems until its retention window expires (see Privacy Policy §8).

5. What We Do NOT Use

HewnTree does not use:

  • Marketing cookies — We do not run ads or retarget you on other sites.
  • Third-party tracking — No Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Hotjar, or any other tracking service.
  • Cross-site tracking — We do not track your activity outside of HewnTree.

6. Local Storage

In addition to cookies, we use your browser's local storage:

7. International Data Transfers

The Sentry cookies listed above route to Sentry's EU ingest region (de.ingest). Other cookies stay on our own infrastructure. For non-EU sub-processors that receive data from your account in the broader product (not via cookies), see Privacy Policy §9 International Data Transfers.

8. Managing Your Preferences

You can manage your cookie preferences at any time:

  • On your first visit, we show a cookie banner where you can accept all, reject optional cookies, or customize your preferences.
  • You can re-open the banner anytime via the Cookie Preferences link in the footer.
  • You can also clear your browser's cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings. This will reset your preferences and sign you out.

9. Contact

If you have questions about our use of cookies, contact us at support@hewntree.com.
